This was the big question in Year 4 during our themed week earlier this term. We had lots of different opinions on the subject… we can feel the wind, we can see its effect on the world, we can hear it, but it remains invisible!
Linked in with our literacy topic on Poems about the Wind, we started to investigate ways of drawing a ‘windy’ picture.
We started small, looking at the effect of the wind on a dandelion.
Then, we looked at larger scale pencil sketches showing the wind and its effect on a bigger area.
Our next step was to investigate the artwork of JM Turner, who remains famous today for his paintings of ships and stormy seas!
We looked at the colours and textures Turner used to create his stormy sea and to show the impact of the howling wind on the waves. Using a combination of colour blending and dry brushing techniques, we created our own stormy sea. We then sketched damaged galleons to go on top of the churning water…The results speak for themselves!
