In Geography, Year 3 have been learning about the movement of the Earth and how volcanoes and earthquakes are created. They found out about features used to make buildings more stable and had a go at designingand making their own ‘earthquake-proof’ structures. Some of the features they used were: cross-bracing for stability, deep foundations that sit below the ground into the bedrock with shock absorbers to absorb the earth tremors (the card is the ground), mesh structures to fortify the building and shutters to prevent falling glass. They came up with some great designs.
