Hello from all of us at Thurston!
Yewdale
Today Yewdale climbed Swirl How, a mountain by Levers Water. They encouraged each other and worked well as a team. The walk began in the fog, but soon, we had passed through the clouds and up into the mountain. For the rest of the day, we had blue skies and bright sunshine as we walked above the clouds. We came back to the centre for a well-earned hot shower and chicken korma curry for our tea. We played a game of alien hunt in teams of 5. We had to use torches to find the aliens, remember their names and code numbers and report the information back to the adults in the classroom.
Langdale
Today, Langdale started off visiting Cathedral Quarry. After a short drive, we arrived in very foggy surroundings and made our way uphill to the quarry entrance. We put on our helmets and walked through the tunnel into the quarry itself. We were amazed at how big the cavern was and at how our voices echoed against the walls. After a short climb, we made it to the top of the quarry ‘window’ and got a chance to shout out and hear the echo. We walked back to the van and had lunch back at the centre.
In the afternoon, we went ghyll scrambling. We put on our wetsuits and helmets and helped each other over rocks and through rapids until we reached a big pool at the top where some of us chose to plunge ourselves into the icy water.
Grizedale
Our first activity today was canoeing on Coniston water. It was extremely foggy so we didn’t manage to get across the lake but we did have some fun playing some games. Some of us even chose to go for a swim in the chilly water!
In the afternoon, we came back to the centre and spent some time on the climbing tree. We encouraged each other and tried to climb as high as we could. We had a really good time despite the chilly conditions!
